Dog Collars are actually the simplest to measure and order online, especially if you have an old collar on hand. If you do, then we recommend measuring both your pet AND his or her old collar to get the most accurate sizing.
Measuring Your Pet’s Neck:
Nylon or Leather Collars: To determine proper size, measure the circumference of pets neck and add 1-2″. Also when ordering nylon collars, take note of the widths. 3/8″ is the smallest width and is usually the same width of a cat collar and best for small puppies and teacup breeds. Collars can get as high as 2″ thick for extra large dogs.
Prong Training Collars: To determine proper size, measure the circumference of pet’s neck and add 1″. Prong collars should fig snug and high on the dog’s neck. Millimeter (mm) size refers to the thickness of the wire. For a shorter or longer collar in the thickness you prefer, you may need to add or remove links (Sold Separately).
Choke Chain Training Collars: To determine proper size, measure the circumference of the pets neck and add 2-3″. The effectiveness of the correction will be diminished if the collar is too loose.

Special Note: If you are also ordering dog leads and leashes, be sure to take note of the matching sizes. For example, a 1″ lead’s swivel clip hardware will be too big to attach to a 3/8″ collar’s small D-ring, its best to go with a 3/8″ (can also be found as cat leads) or 5/8″ lead for tiny and small breeds with thin collars. Another factor in smaller widths is the design on the collars. Smaller collars will have smaller or less of a design than a thicker collar will. Our photos usually represent the larger, 1″ size in order to offer the best possible viewing experience of the collar design. If you ever need to see images or measurements of the actual collar , it’s width’s design or hardware, feel free to contact us any time and we will be happy to email those to you!

Measuring Your Pet’s Old Collar
If you’re lucky enough to have your pet’s previous collar, it’s an added bonus to reference! DO NOT go by this measurement alone. Always be sure to measure your dog whenever possible to determine the best fit.
Here’s how to determine you’re pet’s old collar size:
For “belt buckle” Dog Collars: Lay the collar flat. Starting at the buckle end, measure from where the nylon starts down to the first hole that you hit. That gives you measurement #1 (we’ll call this A”). Now measure from where the nylon starts at the buckle, down to the last hole you hit before the end of the collar. That gives you measurement #2 (we’ll call this B”. This will give you the size of your pet’s old collar (A”-B” size collar). To find the measurement your pet is most comfortable at, measure where the nylon starts at the buckle, down to the hole where your pet wears the collar when buckled.
For “Quick Release” Dog Collars: Unbuckle the collar. Reduce the collar to the smallest size it will adjust. Start from the first clip and measure all the way down to the end of the nylon. (Do not include the 2nd clip). This will give you measurement #1 (we’ll call this A”). Now expand the collar to the largest it will adjust. Start from the first clip and measure all the way down to the end of the nylon. (Do not include the 2nd clip). This gives you measurement #2 (we’ll call this B”). These measurements will give you the size of your pet’s old collar (A”-B” size collar). To find the measurement your pet is most comfortable at, adjust the collar to where your pet wears it. Then unbuckle the collar and measure starting at one buckle down tot he end of the nylon (Do not include the 2nd clip).
For Choke Chains: Measure the full length of the chain.
One of the major benefits of ordering a dog collar on PetKaboodle.com or anywhere online, is that there’s much more of a selection, variety and most often, better quality than you can find in most retail stores. Dog Collars range from simple colorful nylon, to the extravagant rhinestone studded dog collars. You can even find some bad to the bone spiked dog collars and fashionable choke chains with nylon webbing. The variety is endless!
